HDC I was informed very recently that the High Desert Classic in Albuquerque New Mexico has been change from the 11th and 12th of October to the 4th and 5th of October. If you have purchased airfare, please contact me directly at steve@luxinteractive.com or 248.563.3614. We just want to get a handle on how large a problem this is. Don’t do anything just yet, at this point just trying to get a handle on the situation.
US Nationals Great weather once again for the last 5-man Guts tournament of the year. Both days were sunny and warm which helped contribute to some truly great play.
There were 13 teams including a team of brand new teenagers which included Dave Meyer’s and Gene Marsh’s sons. ‘The Kevin Experience’ stepped up and didn’t back down. The was the first tournament for most of these players and they have all committed to continuing on in their local area with the goal of bringing three separate teams to the US Nationals next year. Let’s do everything we can to support these young players.
The Appleton Assassins, with an average age of around 15 had a breakout tournament beating ‘The Kevin Experience’ for their first win ever. Earlier in the day I was talking with some of the Assassins and told them that the first win was always the hardest and that once they got that the second win would come much easier. I guess they listened because their next opponent was the Breakers and sure enough they captured their second win. And make no mistake they WON the game with several bags of the Breakers best players and a final score of 21 -14. Congratulations and watch out next year, these kids are on the rise and if you take them lightly you are going to be sorry.
Each team played 4 round robin games for seeding on Saturday. The top three seeds, Cupola, Blame The Dog, Boomtown, from Albuquerque, were done for the day and the remaining 10 teams played the first round of the tournament bracket. That evening everyone gathered for food and camaraderie and all seemed to enjoy the night greatly.
Sunday morning brought up the intensity and the Japanese team, which had been pretty quiet and not overly impressive started to assert themselves when they were bounced into the losers bracket. They marched through a number of teams but were ultimately beaten by Pinche to finish in 4th place.
Meanwhile Cupola and Boomtown met in the winners bracket finals with Boomtown besting Cupola. Somehow people sensed we would see these two teams again. Pinche, after beating Selfish, was tasked with facing Cupola. Cupola prevailed and the finals were set with Boomtown facing Cupola one more time.
In the finals Boomtown had a good lead towards the end of the first game, but a couple of errant shots brought Cupola back and indeed they did prevail in the first game. Cupola powered through the second game to win their second tournament of the year. Bill (Brock) DePetro was selected as the MVP for the second tournament in a row and his name will be added to Thor’s Mighty Hammer which is given to the MVP of the last 5 man tournament each year.
The total prize fund was $1600 with Cupola capturing $700 for first place.
Great tournament, great facility, great times. See you all next year where we hope to do it even bigger and better.

2007 Hall of Fame Inductions Congratulations are in order for the USGPA Guts Frisbee® Hall of Fame Class of 2007 Inductees: George "Thor" Anderson, Bill Begoske, Dave Bradshaw, Tom Field, Bill Hodges, and Gerard Newman. CONGRATULATIONS! These six individuals will be welcomed and enshrined as new members following a special dinner in a Hall of Fame Induction ceremony as part of the festivities of the 50th IFT! We hope that you will be there to help celebrate this most special event!
As chairman of the Nominations Committee, I would like to recognize the eight members of the '07 Nominations Committee (third year members Dan Thornton, Steve DesJardins, Linda Lovick, and myself; second year members Dave Meyer and Frank Logosh; and first year members Mike Colburn and David Trauger) who volunteered many, MANY hours of their own personal time, provided valuable insight and much-needed, differing viewpoints, and dedicated serious and timely reflection into the process. Thank you.
I would also like to thank those of you who made the effort to submit the 48 names of people you felt worthy of Hall of Fame consideration. From these, a total of 17 Men and 4 Women, eventually, were nominated.
Just to be nominated for Hall of Fame induction is, in itself, a great honor. The following individuals were also nominated but, unfortunately, did not receive the required 67% vote tally: Al Bauman, Sue Begoske, Steve Buckley, Gary Ciaglaski, Jim Dinser, Kristen Hamill, Mary Hartz (Callaghan), Willie Leffel, Dave Meyer, Keith Moher, John Sappington, Dan Thornton, Steve Trauger, Julie (Thomsen) Vadnais, and Joe Welch. Congratulations to you, as well!
Finally, I would like to thank the Voting Body, which includes all Hall of Fame members, members of the USGPA Board of Directors, and this year, members of the Nominations Committee, for doing that thing we most need them to do - VOTE!
CONGRATULATIONS to the new USGPA Hall of Fame Inductees! See you at the 50th IFT where we will make this official!
